Choose Authenticity
Because of their great value and beauty, gold and silver coins are frequently imitated. Some imitations will look almost identical and to an untrained eye could look the same. No imitation coin will ever be able to replicate the brilliance, the beauty, and the value of an authentic numismatic coin.
The same is true with people. Some people make the choice of living an authentic life every single day. These “coin” people add value and beauty to the world by releasing the unique brilliance that only they have. Then there are people who look like brilliant coins, but on closer inspection are revealed as fakes. No matter how hard they try, these people cannot open the vault that holds their brilliance because they live in denial about who they really are.
Each one of us were made exactly how we were meant to be. The day I realized this, I accepted myself and decided it was ideal for me to be my authentic self.
Sometimes we want to believe that imitation is better than the real thing because it’s easier to be an imitation than to be genuine. Have you ever known someone who appears to have everything, yet is lacking in relationships or spiritually? A person with a full calendar but an empty soul? Others may consider these people very accomplished and lucky, but I consider these people “gift wrapped”. Attraction on the outside but when you open them up, you can see their paper thin.
“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.” – Oscar Wilde
So, how about you? Are you the real thing? Are you an authentic numismatic coin, or are you a copycat?
Authentic people are comfortable in their own skin. They are true to themselves and are comfortable being alone. They don’t have to belong to a certain group to be happy. Genuine coin people don’t see themselves in competition with other coins, they see themselves as MS70′s. They understand that no two people are identical, but that each person is extraordinary and valuable because we’re all unique.
Self- Analysis
1. How will you model authenticity for those who look to you as a mentor?
2. When was the last time you stepped out of the crowd and took bold action, or made a bold suggestion or statement?
3. Can you recall times in your life when you operated in total authenticity? What did it feel like?
