Simplicity or Complexity

I am currently reading Why We Want You To Be Rich by Robert Kiyosaki & Donald Trump. Absolutely fabulous book! If you have not read it yet I highly recommend reading it, for all ages!  In chapter 22 they discuss what an adult without much of money should do. I found this to flow nicely with my last post- so here is what the experts say!

If you are an adult without a lot of money, you basically have two choices:

1. Live below your means

2. Expand your means

In other words:

1 Simplicity

2. Complexity

Robert talks about some of his friends who have simplified. They downsized and decreased their standard of living. He describes a couple who built their own adobe home, so they had no mortgage to worry about- they were off the grid. For them this meant having their own solar power, their own well, raise cattle and be heavily armed. They are living life the simple way and are very happy.  Many baby boomers are relocating to Mexico or Costa Rica for the same simpler life.

Then there are people like Donald and Robert who have chosen a complex life. They do business 27/7 because they have business all over the world. They have multiple homes, and are constantly in touch with their home base wherever they are traveling. They are living life complex and are very happy.

Most of us fall somewhere in between the two above examples. The reason why I think it is so important to choose what kind of lifestyle you want to obtain is because all choices require time, money and planning.

As an adult, you should know what kind of lifestyle you want for yourself and your family. There is no correct thing to do, no right or wrong. However you should start planning for it now- before it’s too late, especially if you desire that off the grid lifestyle and need to purchase those 100 acres or want to escape to a tropical island. Find your paradise now. Life is too short to not dream of your paradise, whatever it looks like to you.

If you are an adult , it is time to assess your life and to be truthful with yourself, ask “Am I ahead of the world, or am I falling behind?” If you are falling behind and are completely ok with that, then begin to simplify your life. You may need to live below your means like financial advisors recommend. If you decide to stay in the game and become more complex, the following are some basic steps recommended by Robert Kiyosaki:

  • Find friends, new or old, or join a club with people who think they way you want to think.
  • Travel more. Take trips to learn and grow. See the world.
  • Recommended reading:

The World Is Flat by Thomas Friedman

The Dollar Crisis by Richard Duncan

A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink

The Coming Economic Collapse by Stephen Leeb

The America We Deserve by Donald Trump

If you are not currently up to speed with the happenings of today, reading and studying these books will give you an interesting view of the world. A very different view than the ones painted by politicians and financial planners. By studying these books you will begin to be able to look beyond the problems of the world. You will be able to see the brave new world that is emerging along with the abundance of opportunities to become richer and more fulfilled beyond your wildest dreams.

Review what you have to offer the world. Your skill set, your interests, your location, your intuition, and put your mind to changing your situation. Remain open to ideas that you might not normally entertain. Realize that opportunity comes in different packages, and that some great things have come after great wipeouts.
